Levi Day Joins BPS Racing in Ducati Tri Options
I hope everyone had an enjoyable Christmas and New Year and they are looking forward to the upcoming 2017 championship. I am home in Australia at the moment, running my coaching clinics, ‘On Track Rider Training with Levi Day’ which have proved to be successful so far and myself and my other coaches are looking forward to the last few we have before I head back to the UK at the end of February.
I have been racing in the British Championship for four seasons now, and I have been working really hard to make sure I have a seat for the 2017 season. As with all forms of motorsport, money talks, wherever you are in the world whether that be in your own country or whether you make the shift to race internationally.
As 2016 drew to a close, I had a few ideas on what I wanted to for 2017, with ending 2016 in Superstock 1000 this looked like a solid option, however this changed with the rule changes introduced for 2017 (endurance races, two races a weekend and so on), and the budget that we needed increased by a third of what we had originally planned for. In addition to Superstock 1000 a class I have been watching closely for the last 2 seasons is the Ducati Tri Options Cup. This is a class run alongside British Superbikes at 8 rounds including the final round at the prestigious Assen Cathedral of speed circuit. This championship has cost effective rules and the bikes are all 899 or 959 Ducati Panigales. Low tyre allocations help keeps cost down and very little engine modifications means that all the bikes are of similar power.
I am extremely happy to announce that I will be riding for BPS Racing alongside team mates Victor Cox and Jon Railton. The team have been in the Ducati class for a number of years now and have proved to be a competitive team. They won the championship in 2015 on the bike I'll be racing and have countless podiums with their riders over the past seasons. Jon and Victor will be on the new 959 Panigale while I will be racing the 899. I am very fortunate that the team owner, Mike Green, is willing to put me on a bike. Due to the budget restraints and the lateness of the deal coming together, we are unable to field a 959 for me to race. We are going to assess the situation once the bikes are on track together, and if we find that there is a big difference then a decision will be made on what direction to take, but we are both positive that I can be competitive alongside my team mates.
Each year does seem to become more expensive as you want to step it up from the year before, but I am hugely confident that this year is going to be successful and the budget is achievable to be competitive. I am very excited about this opportunity and believe we will be front runners this season. If you are able to help in any way to help with the race season, I’d love to speak with you, as it all helps make the racing possible. A huge thank you to my brilliant supporters, I would not be able to have raced at this level and continue to do so without the support of many amazing people!
Cheers,
Levi Day
