Round 12 - Superstock 1000 - Brands Hatch

Round 12 - Superstock 1000 - Brands Hatch

The final round of the British Superbikes was held at Brands Hatch over the weekend. It's always a great atmosphere at the final round with over 40,000 spectators making the trip to the Kent country side.
Our weekend consisted of two practice sessions Friday, qualifying Saturday and a race on Sunday. The weather was looking changeable all weekend, so it was going to be luck of the draw of the timings of our sessions each day.
Friday was damp, but with a drying line in both sessions. I felt comfortable on the IN Competition Aprilia and finished the day in 4th position. Saturday was a strange day. It hadn't rained since Friday, but the track was holding a lot of moisture and because of the low temperatures, the track took an awfully long time to dry. Our qualifying session was damp, but it was getting drier through out the session. I felt really strong, we were all running wet tires, but they were wearing out quickly, because of the track drying. I was sitting in pole mid way through the session, but as the track dried out, I got held up on my best lap, by two riders, in two different places, severely losing momentum on what was my fastest lap. This dropped me down to 11th on the grid! Not where I had expected to be when I had felt so strong all session.
Sundays race was held in dry but cold conditions. I got a good start, but there was a big crash on the first lap, involved 3 riders, which caused the red flag to come out, stopping the race. On the restart, my start wasn't quite as strong and it took me a few laps to get passed a couple of riders. By the time I did, I was lapping at the same pace as the top 5, but had just dropped a few seconds to them. I came home in 7th position, a strong finish to the year! This result also took me from 10th to 9th in the final championship standings.
I was really pleased to move up a championship position at the final round. I was also the top rookie for the year, being my first year in Superstock 1000. I owe a huge thank you to Ian and Myra, of IN Competition Aprilia, for all their support this year. Their professionalism has been second to none, they've welcomed us in like family and been great company all year. All the crew working within the team work tirelessly every weekend, and I've improved so much as a rider because of these guys.

I owe the opportunity this season to my main sponsor, AJN Steelstock. With out their support, I would have stopped racing 3 years ago. They have given me these amazing opportunities, and I am forever grateful to have such great people believing in me. It has been a pleasure representing their company, meeting their employees, customers and guests, and being apart of the AJN Family.

I am unsure of what 2020 will hold for me at this time. I am working hard to secure the required funding to continue competing at this level, as I always wanted to give Superstock 1000 a 2 year minimum goal. This class is so competitive, with 5 of the riders that finished in front of me this year, being passed British Champions. I knew the first season would be a big learning curve, and I want to build on what I have learnt this year, into a stronger second season.

Thank you to my sponsors for their support!
